My first "viral" video
A few months ago I decided to upload a video every week to YouTube that would allow me to explore some topic in depth, and give it a different format than a written post. I do this mainly because I like to talk about the problems I am solving, because I am sure I can provide knowledge to other people, just as I learn from others who share their experiences.
It's funny that I've spent 4 months uploading a video a week to reach 100 subscribers and suddenly, one day, a video goes "viral". Until now my videos had relatively few views, although I have always felt good about the first few people who supported the content.
My "best" video to date had managed to reach 1000 views in about a month. The video is "How I organise my notes with obsidian and Zettelkasten". For me it is a success that people found the video interesting, liked, commented or subscribed to both the channel and the blog newsletter.
On the other hand, the video of "solving the billion line challenge in Go" has taken only a few days to reach 10,000 views. For me this small "success" is the result of 4 months of work, overcoming excuses, learning to record, learning to edit, improving the sound quality, thinking how to make better videos, and most importantly: not thinking so much and executing more.
The reflection I get from this is that if you want to do something, whatever it is, first choose something you really like and secondly, be consistent. There are no shortcuts or secrets, just progressive goals.
Why do you have to like it? Because in the end you have to dedicate many, many hours to it and overcome excuses and mental barriers.
